Psych Health and Safety in Canada Podcast

In episode #64 of the Psych Health and Safety in Canada Podcast host Kim MacDonald chats with special guest Alison Butler about Mental Health Awareness at Work.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or is in a mental health crisis. Kim talks with Alison, workplace mental health first aid trainer, who has trained hundreds of employees in workplaces across the country.

The Mental Health Commission of Canada reports that 1 in 5 Canadians experience a mental health challenge every year. Canadian research also states that 35% of working Canadians are suffering from burnout. While managers and employees often know a lot about physical illness and injury, knowledge and understanding about mental health and substance use problems haven't reached the same level.

In this episode, we explore how mental health awareness training can support shared understanding and can be an early step in psychological health and safety efforts.
