Did you get a chance to catch my recent LinkedIn interview with Bridget Schulte from Care/Of Experiences where we tackled the topic of burnout prevention?
Here’s a look at our conversation:
1. Prioritize better balance and boundaries with our work and technology: Establishing firm limits between work and personal life is crucial. Giving our brains a break by putting technology away or turning it off isn't rocket science but many people struggle with technology boundaries in particular.
Bonus: Bridget recommends the book "Stolen Focus" by Johann Hari as an interesting read.
2. Make time for "real rest":
We chat what the idea of "real rest" looks like and how it can look different for everyone but how few people are giving their brains enough time to be "off". Real rest can look like sleep, it can look like travel and exploration, it can look like quality connection with family and friends and many other things.
Bridget talks about carving out time to visit nature areas with "no service" to allow herself time for real rest.
3. Find time for joy and fun: We explore the importance of making time for joy and fun in our lives as part of burnout prevention. Alison explains that trying "new things" can help us build our resilience to stressful situations.
Alison talks about how companies that are taking the time to allow their teams to have restful breaks and explore creativity can add so much value to productivity and morale.
Bridget asks Alison what managers can do to help prevent burnout in their teams.
There are many tips, but Alison starts with this one:
Lead by example: Model the behavior for good work-life balance and boundaries that you want your team to follow. This is how we build the burnout prevention culture from the top down.
