Burnout is a problem in almost every workplace, but were you aware that many managers are at even higher risk? 53% of managers feel burned out according to Work Trend Index, a global survey of workers across multiple industries and companies.
Why is the workplace burnout rate so high for managers?
There are a variety of factors, but commonly:
greater demands with fewer resources
low recognition
unsustainable workload
ensuring team members are supported while also trying to manage their own work
Expectations to be "always on"
What are the risks to Workplaces for manager burnout?
Turnover is an increased risk, along with lower productivity and motivation.
Managers experiencing exhaustion are 1.8 times more likely to leave the company compared to managers not experiencing it.
Managers experiencing cynicism, are 3 times more likely to leave the company compared to managers not experiencing it.
Managers with a lack of professional efficacy are 3.4 times more likely to leave the company.
When a manager is experiencing all three dimensions (exhaustion, cynicism, lack of professional efficacy) they are 5.3 times more likely to leave the company compared to a manager experiencing none.
