Gut Check - Gut Health and Mental Health

I recently had the absolute pleasure of trying the GutCheck gut health product from NuCliq. This innovative at-home kit allows you to test your unique gut microbiome and receive a comprehensive report on your results!

For the past few years I have been very interested in the connection between my mental health and my gut health and have been exploring different options for improving my gut health.

What is the gut microbiome?

"The gut microbiome plays a very important role in your health by helping control digestion and benefiting your immune system and many other aspects of health.

Any imbalance of good and bad microbes in the gut may contribute to weight gain, high blood sugar, high cholesterol and many more serious health conditions." You can read more here.

A few things I love about the Gutcheck™ product:

  1. It's a Newfoundland and Labrador (Canadian) company.

  2. It was super easy to use at home and doesn't require any kind of referral for testing.

  3. I received a comprehensive (40 page!) report with my results.

Here's a peek at what my test kit looked like when it arrived.

The instructions were extremely clear and well laid out.

I didn't have to second guess at anything.

Once your test is complete, you mail your sample back in a pre-paid envelope (included).

My Gutcheck™ Results

My detailed GutCheck report arrived by email and shared lots of interesting information. Here are some of the parts that stood out to me!

  1. My overall Gutcheck™ score is 52% (definitely room for improvement here!)

  2. My gut’s potential to metabolize high protein, lactose (dairy) and gluten rich foods is poor. (Sigh, this one wasn't a surprise because I've already been experimenting with cutting down/out gluten and dairy. Why do bread and cheese have to taste SO good?!)

  3. My gut microbiome profile indicates less supply of B6, B7, B9 and K2 Vitamins. (This is really useful because it shows me where I need to supplement)

  4. My current gut microbiome is associated with elevated feelings of anxiety.

  5. I've received a comprehensive list of foods to add/avoid based on the specific levels of bacteria etc. in my gut.

Why Gutcheck™?

I wanted to share a few things with you directly from the GutCheck website.

Gutcheck™ allows you to understand the types and amounts of bacteria present in your gut. This is necessary to get an idea of the overall bacterial composition and their diversity score defining the good and the bad bacteria and their ratios. These relative amounts will tell you if you have a healthy or an unhealthy gut.

Your Gutcheck™ report describes how your physical and mental health may be impacted based on the bacterial composition. Gain knowledge on how your tiny gut microbes may be affecting your health and impacting your day-to-day activities. You’ll also receive insights about potential disease risks associated with your gut microbiome.

Your Gutcheck™ report suggests lifestyle changes and food recommendations required for correcting and maintaining your balanced or healthy gut bacteria.

*Disclaimer: I received a complimentary GutCheck kit as part of sharing my honest review & feedback.

I've started using a few specific products from Arbonne that better support my gut health, including:

  • GutHealth digestion & microbiome support (I like mixing this powdered formula into my shakes and smoothies).

  • GutHealth prebiotic fibre.

  • BeWell Vitamin D3 and K2 spray.

These products are vegan certified, gluten free, B Corp certified, and more!

Send me an email using the contact form if you'd like to know more.
